KETUANAN MELAYU DOES NOT EXIST, SAYS UMNO INFO CHIEF

UMNO Information Chief Muhammad Muhd Taib says that Ketuanan Melayu (Malay Supremacy) is just sweet talk and does not exist in reality.

He told Sin Chew Daily that the real focus is not on the term itself, instead, it is on whether Malays and Bumiputra are able to apply what they have learned and contribute to the society.

"It would be a success as long as Malays and Bumiputra do their best and perform well in business, service and other sectors, and even as an employee," said Muhammad Muhd Taib.

He stressed that the term "Ketuanan Melayu" was created by some people with an unknown motive.

Many non-Malays are worried as they thought the term means Malay to control other races. Muhammad Muhd Taib said it is a wrong perception.

In his view, the so-called "Malay Dominance" has nothing to do with Ketuanan Melayu, it is as well not referring to the control on other races.

He told reporters that: "If a Malay-owned clinic is the only clinic in a village and patients of various racial groups come for consultation, it would be a Malay dominance in the village. Similarly, when residents of various racial groups get specialist services provided by a Chinese, it means the Chinese dominance in that place."

He added that the most important point is, whether Malays are having a wealth of knowledge and strong ability to compete with others.
